Gun Powder

Introduction to Firearms

Introduction to Firearms is a great first step towards becoming comfortable with firearms. This is a basic class that will get you familiar with all things firearms. Learn the different types of firearms, firearms parts, ammunition types, how to safely handle firearms and more. No firearms experience required for this class. This is a classroom class with the option for live fire. NO live fire will be required. All required materials for this class will be provided. 3-4 Hours $40

Concealed Carry

Basic firearms class is designed to give you the tools and knowledge needed to use a pistol to defend yourself safely. We will cover concealed carry laws, mindset, proper equipment, firearm and ammo selection. Classroom and live fire range components. Will satisfy requirements for concealed carry permit for KY, OH and WV. 8 Hours $75

Class Requirements: 

-Pistol

-1 Magazine

-100 Rounds Ammo

-Eye Protection

-Ear Protection

-Cleaning Kit

Recommended Equipment:

-An extra gun and supporting gear if available. 

-Clothing for all possible weather conditions. We will shoot as long as its safe to do so. 

-Plenty of fluids and snacks.

-Note taking materials.

Handgun and  Ammunition

Handgun Fundamentals I

Want to learn to shoot but don't need your concealed carry? This is the class for you. Learn proper mechanics of shooting such as grip, stance, accuracy and recoil management. Class will start with the 4 rules of gun safety then a short assessment to determine everyone's skill level. From there we will make adjustments to your fundamentals as needed and continue to work them through a series of increasingly more difficult drills. 3 Hours $50


Class Requirements:

-Modern centerfire pistol chambered in 38 special or larger (Preferably Semiautomatic)

-Enough magazines or speed loaders to hold 24 rounds. More is always better.

-200 rounds of factory ammo. 

-Eye Protection

-Electronic ear protection

Recommended Equipment:

-Magazine pouch. You can work reloads from your pocket, but a pouch is always better.

-An extra gun and supporting gear if available. 

-Clothing for all possible weather conditions. We will shoot as long as it's safe to do so. 

-Plenty of fluids and snacks.

-Note-taking materials.

Modular Handgun

Handgun Fundamentals II

***Prerequisite: Handgun Fundamentals I or Concealed Carry Course or Prior Permission***


Picking up where Handgun Fundamentals I left off we will review the 4 basic gun safety rules followed by a safety briefing. Next will be a quick review of the fundamentals and some warm-up drills. Finally we will work on developing our draw from concealment with a huge focus on safety. The rest of the day will be spent running drills from concealment. We will advance as far as time and skill levels allow into more advanced drills. 3 Hours $50


Class Requirements:

Defensive Pistol 1

The next step after your concealed carry class. We will work on proper clothing choices, proper holster placement, drawing from concealment, reholstering safely, quick accurate initial shots, one-handed shooting, trigger control, malfunction clearance, and more as time and progress allow. 6 Hours $100

Class Prerequisite: Basic Concealed Carry Class

-Semiautomatic pistol chambered in 9mm or larger.

-Enough magazines to hold 24 rounds. More is always better.

-Quality holster that is rigid enough to allow safe one0handed reholstering. Kydex is preferred. (NO SERPA or any holster that requires trigger finger to operate a release.) Appendix holsters allowed on case-by-case basis. 

-300 rounds of factory ammo.

Youth Firearms Safety Class

Do you want your child to learn how to responsibly and safely handle and shoot firearms responsibly and safely? A certified NRA Instructor will teach this 3-hour class and safety is the absolute top priority. Classroom time will be spent learning the safety rules of gun handling, what to do if a firearm is found, parts of a firearm, proper grip, stance, and trigger pull. The range time will be spent applying the lessons learned in the classroom in a safe and controlled environment. A parent or guardian must be with the child at all times, All firearms and ammunition will be provided, Children will have the opportunity to shoot 22lr pistols and rifle. $50 for the first child and $20 for each additional sibling. You must provide your own eye and ear protection.

NRA Basic Pistol

The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for safely owning and using a pistol. Through this course, the students will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities. 8 Hours. $75

About Us

John grew up around firearms. He started shooting and hunting early in life. He loves all things related to firearms and is a staunch supporter of the 2nd Amendment. He enjoys competing in shooting sports. John competes in USPSA and Steel Challenge. John is a certified NRA Basic Pistol Instructor. He is a member of the Ashland Gun Club and the North East Kentucky Fish and Game Association. John has been in the medical field since he was 18 starting as an EMT-B then an EMT-I. He spent 10 years in EMS and has worked in multiple emergency rooms including a Level 1 trauma center. He is currently an Athletic Trainer covering sports medicine for a local high school. John is a certified CPR, AED and First Aid instructor with the American Heart Association and a Stop the Bleed Instructor.
